A General Life & Reading Update

6 Oct

Hello everyone! First off, I would like to apologize for the complete lack of August & September updates. Life has been very hectic lately, and while I’ve had time for a lot of reading, I have had not very much for posting. I have debated about how to catch up with the massive backlog of reviews, and while I will be trying to get August & September recaps up, right now I am going to focus on October. Because it’s Spooktober! As you may know, I only read spooky books in October (horror, thrillers, dark fantasy, even creepy nonfiction), and this year I set myself the lofty goal of reading 31 things in 31 days. I know, what a task! Of course novellas and slim poetry collections count, so this does not seem as daunting as it initially appears.

I am also participating in 3 October readathons: Spookie Shelfie (which runs all month), Spookathon (a 1-week event), and Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon (a 1-day event). I’m trying to have no overlapping books (i.e. don’t read Spookathon books during Dewey’s, don’t double-count books for multiple challenges or events), and while this might seem like a Sisyphean task it’s going really well so far. Since I’ll (hopefully) be reading such a high volume, I aim to do weekly wrapups or at least separate ones for Dewey’s and Spookathon.

As for the past few months, I do want to get that content up because I’ve been having a great late-summer/early-fall of reading. I read through all of the Man Booker, part of the National Book Award longlist, and participated in both SciFi September and Stephen King September. If I do not get reviews of every single book from those months my aim is to at least have some event coverage in the next few weeks!
